AAI Corporation was founded in 1950 by five longstanding defense industry experts who raised $1,000 in start-up capital between them.
Originally founded as Aircraft Armaments, Inc., in a former supermarket storefront, the company’s name later was changed to AAI Corporation to more accurately reflect the diverse nature of its product and service offerings for the armed forces.
The company moved to its current Hunt Valley, Md., headquarters in 1954 — today, the company occupies more than one million square feet of space in Hunt Valley, at its numerous other U.S. locations, and at its U.K.- and Australia-based strategic businesses.
AAI became part of the Textron family of businesses in late 2007, ushering in a new and exciting era for the company.
From its inception, AAI’s mission centered around designing and developing innovative technologies for warfighters. The company’s customer base has expanded to include U.S. allies around the world, and AAI’s experienced logisticians and operators also are stationed worldwide supporting our customers in the field.
Key to that mission are AAI’s skilled, dedicated employees, who apply all of their talents and resources to serving our customers. As one of the company’s founders and former presidents, Joel Jacobson, remarked in 1957, “Our growth has been entirely due to the enthusiastic, cooperative and able efforts of the men and women who comprise our organization.” And that statement holds true today, as AAI celebrates its 60th anniversary.
